Markus Hartung - Managing Director
Markus Hartung is a lawyer and mediator as well as director of Bucerius CLP. He has extensive experience in the management of firms. In 1999, he became a managing partner at Oppenhoff & Rädler, the predecessor of Linklaters in Germany. During this time, he facilitated the firm’s merger with Linklaters and was thereafter, from 2001 to 2008, managing partner at Linklaters Germany and member of the Global Executive Committee at Linklaters.
At Bucerius CLP, the focus of his work is on researching the legal market. In addition, he is responsible for the design of the education, training and counseling programs for lawyers. His research interests are in market development and trends, in management and strategic leadership, and in the corporate governance of partnerships, including with respect to the legal requirements of different legal markets.
Since 2006, he is a member of the committee on the laws governing the legal profession of the German Bar Association (DAV), for which he has been chairman since 2011.His legal interests include conflict management as well as professional liability law for lawyers. In addition, he advises firms in strategic and management issues and coaches partners with management functions.Markus Hartung is a frequent speaker on the topics of leadership, management and professional ethics and has written numerous articles and book chapters. He is co-editor and author of Der Rechtsmarkt in Deutschland (The legal market in Germany), which quickly became a standard reference work for the German legal market since its publication in 2014.
Prof. Dr. Klaus-Stefan Hohenstatt - Director
Klaus-Stefan Hohenstatt is a lawyer and partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Hamburg and specialises in employment law in the context of transactions and re-organisations. He is also an expert in employee remuneration schemes for executive and supervisory boards. As Honorary Professor of the Bucerius Law School, he teaches employment law, covering employee representation and participation.
Klaus-Stefan Hohenstatt has over 15 years’ management experience at Freshfields.
From 2003 until 2010 he was Head of the Global Practice Group for Employment, Pensions & Benefits, and was Managing Partner of the Hamburg Office for many years. In 2010 he became Regional Managing Partner for Germany and Austria, a position which he held until 2016. He was also a member of the Global Practice Committee, the executive committee responsible for the business operations of Freshfields, from 2003 until 2016.
He has been a member of the Bucerius CLP’s Advisory Board since its incorporation in 2010 and, from 1st January 2017, is member of the Bucerius CLP Board of Directors. In this role he will focus on Human Resources and Leadership, as well as the development of new areas of consultancy for law firms.
